Rare Genetics was built with one clear mission: preserve animal genetics for the future.We started with a simple idea – use science to protect the breeds, bloodlines, and species that matter. Farmers, breeders, and conservationists lose valuable animals every year. Once they are gone, their genetics are gone forever. Rare Genetics is here to stop that loss.
We are India’s first private animal biobank, located in Pune, Maharashtra. We collect, freeze, and store genetic material from livestock, pets, and wildlife. Our work covers tissue cryopreservation, semen banking, epididymal sperm recovery, and genetic resource banking for endangered species.
Our goal is simple: keep genetic diversity alive. Whether it is a prize horse, a working dog, or a wild species at risk, Rare Genetics creates a way to protect their future.
How Our Journey Began
Rare Genetics began with a focus on equine and canine semen cryopreservation. Farmers and breeders needed reliable solutions, and no private center in India offered them. We filled that gap.
Our founder, Mr. Ranjit Kher, started this mission with a clear vision – to protect and preserve animal genetics for future generations. With his guidance and passion, we continue to support breeders, vets, and conservationists across India.
In 2020, we partnered with The Barnhouse to build India’s first privately-led tissue biobank for wildlife, livestock, and pets. Soon after, global collaborations followed:
